Development Academy in Season 2024

Following the success of previous years’ Lightning Academies, we will be running a similar program prior to the start of the 2024 hockey season. The program is designed to increase a player’s skill base, game knowledge, meet other players in their association and zone and to kickstart season 2024. The Academy offers a great opportunity for players to get to know one another before the JSC trials in April.

 

The five-week program is run at satellite venues across the North West Lightning zone and includes two game days where all players meet to play a variety of games within their age groups. Players will be exposed to all coaches over the course of the program, enabling them to learn from a wealth of experience. To ensure the sustainability of the program, a minimum of 12 participants is required at each satellite venue.

 

Key Information

• Open to players born in 2006 – 2014

• Venues include Bendigo, Dimboola, Echuca, Mildura, St Arnaud and Shepparton (pending numbers)

• Training on Sundays from 10am – 12pm (Wed evening for Mildura) and game days from 11am – 2pm

• 5-week program including 2 match days

• Training dates: February 4th, 11th, March 3rd (January 31st, February 7th, 28th in Mildura)

• Game dates: February 25th and March 17th in Bendigo

• Cost: $100 (HV have generously sponsored this program to reduce the cost at all venues)

• Family discount of $10 for second and successive children

The North West Lightning Academy will enhance a participant’s chances of selection for the Junior State Championships by being coached by JSC coaches and selectors. Players intending to trial for JSC are strongly encouraged to take part in the program.

 

Coach Information

Local coaches are set to benefit through the program too. The Head Coach will mentor local coaches through online sessions, share and explain the drills in the training package that the coaches will deliver at each venue. Just like the players, any coaches wishing to coach at JSC are encouraged to become part of the program.  All coaches are paid an honorarium and have the opportunity to be accredited. We are seeking expressions of interest for the Program Coaches.

If your child is keen to participate in the Academy click on the following link, fill in their details and pay the $20 deposit by 5pm Sunday 10th December. Any registrations after this date will not receive the training shirt. Registrations will remain open until late January.
